About Richard G. Rouse, M.D.

Originally from Chicago, Dr. Rouse received his medical degree from Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine where he was a member of the Kirklin Society. He has been with South Texas Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgical Associates since its origin in September of 1997, and is currently serving as the Secretary/Treasurer. He has practiced in San Antonio since 1981 caring for both children and adults. Dr. Rouse is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

He completed his General Surgery and Cardiothoracic surgery residencies at the University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama. He had additional training with Dr. Maurice Lev at the Congenital Health Disease Research and Training Center in Chicago, Illinois, and with Dr. Alain Carpentier at the Hospital Broussais in Paris, France.

Dr. Rouse has authored several publications, and he is a Clinical Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Texas. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Section at Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital. He serves on the Information Technology Committee and the Health Policy Development Subcommittee for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Education Committee for the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education. He is also pursuing studies in Medical Management at the University of Texas at Dallas.
