Dr. Daniel Martinez, M.D. joined South Texas Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgical Associates in February 2006. Dr. Martinez brings to the practice an exceptional background in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, with particular interest and expertise in congenital cardiac surgery, aortic and aortic root surgery, mitral valve repair, thoracic trauma, and complex acquired cardiac surgery. Dr. Martinez is Board Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery and is fluent in Spanish.
Prior to joining our practice, Dr. Martinez was as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Before coming to San Antonio he was an assistant professor of surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center in the division of cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Martinez earned his doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, Iowa City. He has done fellowships at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and The University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center. He trained in pediatric cardiac surgery at UCSF.
