Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital Names Two South Texas Cardiothoracic Surgeons to Co-Director Positions.

Drs. Leopoldo Zorrilla and Lawrence Hamner, III were appointed in December 1999 as surgical co-directors of the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital, under the auspices of the Texas Transplant Institute (TTI).

Trans-myocardial Revascularization (TMR) Laser Surgery.

TMR laser surgery, is a new procedure using a laser to burn small holes into the heart tissue to encourage revascularization (new vessel growth) of diseased heart muscle. This procedure can be a stand-alone procedure or done in conjunction with coronary by-pass surgery. It is frequently performed on the beating heart. South Texas Cardiothoracic has five surgeons trained in this procedure. To find out if you are, or as a referring physician, your patient is a candidate for TMR surgery, please contact our office.

Charitable and Community Activities.

South Texas Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgical Associates, P.L.L.C. was recently recognized for its support of the American Heart Association. This March, South Texas Cardiothoracic also contributed to the Baptist Healthcare System?s charity Candlelight Ball in support of the American Cancer Society. In community-related activities, Dr. Zorrilla currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Symphony.
